Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has welcomed the return of Pepe Reina and believes the competition for places will be healthy for the club.
The Spaniard spent last season on loan at Serie A club Napoli, but has returned to Anfield after the Italians decided not to make the move permanent.
While Reina is still likely to leave the club due to his high wages, Mignolet believes it could be a good thing if he remains on Merseyside.
“Competition can only be a good thing,” the Belgium international said on his arrival at Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the US.
“It makes you a better player. I’m very happy that everyone is here; we’ll work hard in training and push each other on to a better level.”
The Reds are rumoured to have completed a deal to sign fellow Belgian and World Cup starlet Divock Origi, and Mignolet believes the 19-year-old has everything he needs to succeed in the Premier League.
“He did really well for Belgium,” Mignolet added.
“We didn’t know that much about him but he came in and showed something to the outside world.
“He’s definitely got ability; he’s strong and quick, he’s got skill, he can score a goal as well, so he’s got all the qualities you need to become a top striker in the Premier League.”
