The hosts were fell behind midway through the half courtesy of a Rodrigo Moreno trademark burst before sliding a pass to Kevin Gamiero who finished with aplomb.
Barcelona’s woes was compounded after Sergi Roberto fouled Daniel Wass in the penalty box less than 10 minutes later. Daniel Parejo converted the spot kick, running with a surprise 2-0 advantage at the Nou Camp.
Messi Pulled one back with a penalty of his own right before halftime, and produced a moment of absolute brilliance to level the match in the 64th minute, freezing Valencia goalkeeper Neto solid with a left-footed strike.
Elsewhere, Celta Vigo broke a five-match losing streak and escaped the relegation zone by beating Sevilla 1-0 at home thanks to Okay Yokuslu’s second-half goal.
