Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal charged by FA

Louis van Gaal has been charged by the FA over his post-match comments at Cambridge last month.

Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium in the fourth round of the FA Cup, later coming through a replay against their League Two opponents.

Van Gaal claimed after the first game that “every aspect of the match is against us” and went on to say of match official Chris Foy: “You have seen the referee.

“It’s always the same. Everywhere I have coached these games – and I have coached them also with other clubs – it’s always the same.”

That quote has apparently attracted the attention of the FA, who allege that the United manager’s comments “allege and/or imply bias on the part of the match referee and/or bring the game into disrepute.”

Van Gaal has until 6pm on Monday to respond to the charge.
