Louis Van Gaal eyeing Kevin Strootman

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to reunite with Netherlands and Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman this January.

Reports suggest that Man United sent scouts to watch Strootman make his return to action in the Netherlands’ game against Italy this month, with the midfielder having been out injured since March.

Strootman has been linked with a move to Manchester United for much of the past year, though the club failed to act when the Dutchman became available at PSV in the Netherlands and made the switch to Roma in the summer of last year.

Strootman’s international teammate Daley Blind has taken up the role of defensive midfielder since arriving at Old Trafford this past summer, but Strootman, off the back of his excellent form with Roma, remains a key target for the Red Devils.

Roma have continually expressed their desire to keep a hold of the midfielder, insisting he isn’t for sale, though van Gaal, having gone without Strootman at the World Cup in Brazil, believes the allure of Manchester United will be too great to turn down.
