Rickie Lambert will reportedly be confirmed as a Liverpool player on Monday after passing his medical ahead of a £4 million move.
The Reds reportedly agreed a fee with Southampton on Thursday morning and the deal has progressed swiftly, with the 32-year-old completing his medical exam on Saturday.
Lambert, who hails from Kirkby in Liverpool, flew to the city on Friday evening after England’s 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley and met up with club officials at a local hospital before heading to the club’s training ground to complete the deal.
It is now expected that the striker’s dream move to his boyhood club will be confirmed on Monday, with personal terms on a two-year deal already agreed.
The England international will now jet off to Miami with the national team as they continue their preparations for the World Cup in Brazil with two friendlies against Ecuador and Honduras.
Liverpool are believed to be chasing Lambert’s Southampton teammate Adam Lallana and reports suggest they have submitted a final offer of £25 million for the 25-year-old.
