Maurizio Sarri has sensationally revealed that he found out he was sacked by Napoli while he had his feet up watching the television.
The Italian boss took over at Chelsea this summer after negotiations to exit the Serie A side finally came to a conclusion.
Sarri still had two years left on his contract at Napoli after pushing Juventus close to the title last season.
Despite Napoli appointing Carlo Ancelotti as new manager, Sarri was still under contract with the two clubs struggling to agree a compensation fee.
And as he waited on his next move, the 59-year-old’s legal dispute finally came to a conclusion that allowed him to complete a deal to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Il Mattino, he said: “It’s true, I found out that I wasn’t the Napoli coach anymore by seeing it on television, “I had some doubts, that’s fair, but there was a clause in the contract and it wasn’t something I had asked for.
“It was not respected in the timing. Now I hope that Ancelotti can achieve what I came so close to.”
Sarri’s stock rose last season when he came on the brink of ending Juve’s dominance at the top but finished four points behind the Old Lady.
He has four wins from four in the Premier League so far but the club have done everything in their power to help him settle in London.
