Reading midfielder, Hope Akpan will miss Nigeria’s final group A Afcon qualifying game South Africa in Uyo on Wednesday.
The 23-year old dislocated his shoulder in the 51st minutes of Nigeria’s all important 0-2 victory over Guinea in Pointe-Noire and would be out for Super Eagles win or bust clash against group leaders, South Africa.
Media officer Ben Alaiya confirmed that the player will not be part of the team that will take on Bafana Bafana in Uyo and also fancies Nigeria’s chances of qualifying from the group.
“We have a better player base than they have,” said Alaiya, optimistic of victory in Wednesday’s game.
“We are in a better frame of mind that when we played against them in Cape Town. We expect a better result in Uyo.”
A win against South Africa will put Nigeria comfortably in second position with 10points and will also secure their place at the Nations Cup that would be held in Equatorial Guinea next year.
