England captain Steven Gerrard took part in limited training on Monday due to a groin injury.
The niggle, which is believed not to be serious enough to put the midfielder’s participation in England’s opener in doubt, saw the Liverpool man perform shuttle runs on the side of the Three Lions’ training pitch before calling it a day.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin continued his rehabilitation from a knee injury and did not take part in the squad’s training, but was able to do some sprints after practice, a move which is sure to come as a relief to manager Roy Hodgson.
The remainder of the squad underwent an intense training session in hot conditions in Rio de Janiero.
England get their World Cup campaign underway on Saturday against Italy.
