Football411.net football expert Flory is putting his wits into predicting the result of the English Premier League matches.

17 August 2012
This week’s predictions:

Arsenal 2 Sunderland 0
Everton 0 ManUtd 1
Fulham 1 Norwich 1,
ManCity 3 Southampton 1,
Newcastle 2 Tottenham 1,
Reading 2 Stoke 0,
QPR 2 Swansea 1,
Westbrom 1 Liverpool 1,
Westham 2 AstonVilla 1,
Wigan 1 Chelsea 1

Summary

Arsenal Vs Sunderland

It feels like Arsenal have to sell their star player every year as they begin life without Robin VanPersie
Winning the Premier League would again proof difficult for them this term as the wait for a first title since 2005 most likely still goes on.
Sunderland are still trying to put the finishing touches to their squad, especially up front. Their bids for Steven Fletcher has been turned down a few times so I think it was a clever move to go for Louis Saha.
Connor Wickham, Stephane Sessegnon and Saha as their main strikers at the moment.
I don’t see them getting anything out of Arsenal though.

Prediction: 2-0

Fulham Vs. Norwich

Both this sides had a decent campaign last season.
The challenge for Fulham this season however is to make sure they keep their goalscorers especially Clint Dempsey.
Norwich’s new coach Chris Houghton already brought Robert Snodgrass from Leeds but their survival would again depend on another big season from Grant Holt and Steve Morrison.

Prediction: 1 – 1

QPR Vs Swansea

Swansea’s new boss Michael Laudrup’s style of play while at Mallorca suggest a similar approach to his predecessors at the club. The passing game seems to be part of their DNA but I think it would be difficult for them to reach the height they did last season.
Mark Hughes has been busy with QPR bringing in some quality players in the summer bringing in players like Junior Hoillet, Robert Green, Park Ji Sung and Fabio on loan from Manchester United.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Reading Vs Stoke

Reading is a very decent side in my opinion. Like many newly promoted sides however its quite difficult for them to convince players to sign for them.
Stoke has really built a compact hard to beat team since they gained promotion in 2008,however their recent away form over the seasons has been quite patchy.

Prediction: 2 – 0

West Brom Vs Liverpool
While most Liverpool fans would be hoping for a drastic change in their playing style under Brendan Rogers,I see very little changing as the nucleus of the team still remains the same.
West Brom have had a busy summer, and strangely Steve Clarke’s first game as manager after leaving his job as Liverpool’s first-team coach is against his old club.He should make a solid start here.

Prediction: 1 – 1

West Ham Vs Aston Villa

Of all the promoted teams, West Ham seemingly has the best chance of staying especially with an experienced manager like Sam Allardyce in charge.
Aston Villa’s new coach Paul Lambert would bring a lot of freshness into Villa and with Darren Bent back from injury they would have better fire-power than last season.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Newcastle Vs Tottenham

Newcastle’s project seems likely to grow to better heights this season having managed to keep their top performers from last term.New signings like Vurnon Anita from Ajax and others is also a massive boost for them.
Andre-Villas Boas would probably have enough time and freedom to build a solid squad at Tottenham than at Chelsea. That however makes them a team under construction and with Luka Modric’s future still a distracting factor,I see Newcastle nicking this one.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Wigan Vs Chelsea

Chelsea has bought quality players this summer. The brazilian Oscar seems to be my favorite from the lot.The problem for them however is up front where it seems they would majorly rely on Torres to play alone up front. Its already looking like he would produce this season but that should probably only see them do well enough for a top four finish, but not the title.
Wigan look like they would struggle again this season but I think again they would do enough to survive. The addition of Ivan Ramis from Mallorca is also good business and I see them getting something out of this game.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Man City Vs Southampton

Man City’s home record is outstanding just like their goal scoring. It would be mor difficult for them this season however as they have now officially become the team to beat.Their worry again would be Man Utd,and that is a big worry.
Southampton is a very good side but in a match against City, they would find it difficult to create clear cut chances and their hope for goals would have to come from half chances.

Prediction : 3 – 0

Everton Vs Man Utd

United signed Robin van Persie and they have Nemanja Vidic fit again.
That means they have two proven world-class players in addition to what they had last season, when they only lost the title on goal difference in the very last minute of the very last game also with Shinji Kagawa and a fully fit Tom Cleverley and Antonio Valencia,I think United are title favourites for three reasons,
* Things will be harder for Manchester City as champions.
*United have improved from last year
*Sir Alex Ferguson
Whenever United have finished second in the Premier League, they have always come back and won it the following year – there is a reason for that, and it is an attitude that starts with their manager.
Everton have in the past been slow starter and I see that trend continuing here.

Prediction : 0 – 1
