Europa Round Of 16 Draw Announced

The UEFA Europa League Round Of 16 Draw was held on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.

Arsenal, among of the favorites to win the competition, drew Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes. Both sides were forced to come-from-behind to advance to the round of 16. Arsenal overcame a 1-0 in the first leg against BATE Borisov to advance on a 3-1 aggregate. For its part, Rennes pulled off a spectacular turnaround, defeating Real Betis 3-1 to win 6-4 on aggregate.

The first leg of the draw will be played at the Emirates in London and is timed a bit inconveniently for the Gunners, squeezed between the North London Derby (March 2) and a huge showdown with Manchester United (March 10).

Fellow English Premier League side Chelsea was handed Dynamo Kiev and a long trip to Ukraine with its draw. Chelsea will have the opportunity to set the tone at Stamford Bridge on March 7 but will also be faced with the tall task of closing out the tie away in Kiev.

The other major matchup of the round of 16 is set to be Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Inter Milan. Frankfurt, the only German club remaining in the Europa League, has won seven of its eight games in the competition and scored more goals (23) than any other club.

Inter Milan is one of two Italian sides remaining in the mix to make it to Baku, Azerbaijan for the final along with Napoli, which will face Red Bull Salzburg.
