The peoples elephant Enyimba yesterday bid farewell to the CAF champions league after losing narrowly to Egyptian outfit Zamalek. The Aba outfit needed at least a 1-0 win toequal the result Zamalek earned when they visited Nigeria, knowing that a showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns still looms.
In a match where the peoples elephant were on the backfoot for majority of the match, the host only managed to break the deadlock in the 63rd minute through a penalty that was coolly slotted to the right side of the post by Basem Morsey. The penalty was given by the referee after Enyimba’s defender Anyawu was adjudged to have committed a foul in the penalty area and the subsequent result was the goal. After conceding, Enyimba never really threatened to put their hosts to the sword , as they could only create half chances and were almost punished on a number of Occasions by the host.
What this defeat means is that, Enyimba are out of the competition even with a game to spare, they come back home with their tails between their legs and having to compete for two other domestic cups.
All we can say to them from Football411 is we wish Paul Aigbogun and his lads the best of luck as they battle through the remaining part of the season ..
