British newspaper Guardian has published a list of the top 100 footballers in the world for the year ended 2013.
Occupying the 97th position is Super Eagles and Fenerbahçe striker Emmanuel Emenike who scored four goals to emerge as Top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations early in the year.
This was how the Guardian profiled the Nigerian:
“Emenike staked an early claim as one of AfricaÔÇÖs most influential players when his exploits propelled Nigeria towards a long overdue success in the Cup of Nations. AfricaÔÇÖs most populous nation had not won it for almost two decades, and his role in such an encouraging triumph was vital. Emenike was prolific, consistent and finished as the competitionÔÇÖs top scorer. It is the determination and pace of his runs that makes the difference to NigeriaÔÇÖs counter-attacking strength ÔÇô EmenikeÔÇÖs team-mates figure that if the pass is half decent, he should find it. Brazil 2014 could be a useful shop window for the Fenerbahce striker.”
Emenike continued his good scoring form over the weekend as he scored his 7th goal of the season in Fenerbah├ºe’s 1-2 loss to Karab├╝kspor.
The 26-year-old has also been nominated for the CAF African footballer of the year 2013.
