Nigeria hopeful Bright Dike revealed his heart-break after being ruled out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup because of a long-term injury.
The 27-year-old was included in the Super Eagles’ squad that will play a friendly against Mexico in the USA next month.
It was the Totonto-based striker’s chance to impress Stephen Keshi and his technical team ahead of the football showpiece.
However, an Achilles injury suffered at practice on Monday has dashed his hopes of making the trip to Brazil in a few months time.
He took to Twitter to express his disappointment, with the straight-forward post: “Worst day of my life.”
The Oklahoma-born marksman had significantly improved his chances of breaking into Nigeria’s squad after scoring the opener in the 2-2 draw with Italy in November last year.
It was his first goal for the African champions on the international stage in two official outings.
