Creativity contributing to 16-point deficit

Two of the major performers for Real Madrid last season were Marcelo and Dani Carvajal, the duo grabbing assists from left, right and centre – although mainly left and right.

However that cannot be said for the 2017/18 campaign as pretty much all creativity has dried up for both players, with Los Blancos feeling the effects .

Marcelo ended last season with 10 assists in LaLiga with Carvajal totalling four, and at this stage of the season both had managed three.

Fast forward 12 months and their total contribution to the first round of LaLiga fixtures is just one, provided by the Brazilian on the first day of the season at Deportivo La Coruna.

Full-backs assist rankings 2017/18

1- Jordi Alba (Barcelona). 5 assists.

2- Sergi Roberto (Barcelona). 5 assists.

3- Jose Angel (Eibar). 4 assists.

4- Odriozola (Real Sociedad). 4 assists.

5- Barragán (Betis). 3 assists.

6- Gaya (Valencia). 3 assists.

20- Marcelo (Real Madrid). 1 assist.

In addition, Achraf Hakimi has failed to provide a key pass for a goal whereas Danilo had managed to do so in the six appearances he made during the early weeks of 2016/17.

These numbers compare terribly with Real’s rivals; Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto have set up five goals each, and they’re followed up by Eibar’s Jose Angel and Real Sociedad’ Adrian Odriozola with four apiece.
