Chelsea have appealed against a one-year transfer ban imposed by FIFA – but must wait to discover whether it will be temporarily lifted.
Chelsea were found guilty of breaching rules on signing overseas players under the age of 18, The London based club were banned from signing new players for two transfer windows and handed a fine of 600,000 Swiss francs..
FIFA said in a statement that it could not give a schedule for the process, nor say whether the ban would be lifted pending the appeal hearing.
“There is no exact timetable for the hearings and decisions taken by the FIFA appeal committee,” soccer’s governing body said, with the panel’s chairman set to decide on freezing the punishment.
Chelsea have denied any wrongdoing and have immediately responded to the punishment by claiming that they had “acted in accordance with the relevant regulations” as well as revealing they were “extremely disappointed” by FIFA’s decision.
The statement read: “Chelsea FC categorically refutes the findings of the FIFA disciplinary committee and will therefore be appealing the decision.
