George Boyd put the hosts ahead in the 34th minute at Turf Moor with a strong left-foot shot from 20 yards (meters) into the top right corner after being set up by Danny Ings’ header.
Papiss Cisse equalized shortly after the interval with a low shot into the right corner from the center of the box in the 48th after being set up by Yoann Gouffran’s clever flick.
Burnley has 12 points, while midtable Newcastle has 20. Both teams have played 14 matches.
The Clarets’ resurgence has been built around the return to form and fitness of Ings and, although absent from the scoresheet, he was again in excellent form.
His cushioned header provided Boyd with the chance he needed to break the deadlock and whenever the ball came close to Ings in the final third, he frightened the Magpies’ defence.
But a draw was the right result and Cisse’s fifth goal of the season set Newcastle back on course after a winning run of six matches ended in defeat against West Ham on Saturday.
