The Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) say they have sacked  head coach Sewnet Bishaw.
Under Bishaw’s guidance ,Ethiopia ┬áfailed record a single goal as they lost all three group games at the just concluded African Nations Championship in South Africa.
According to EFF president Juniedin Basha, the national team’s recent performance is the reason for┬á his dismissal.
“Sewnet is a hero for our football; he brought us back to the international scene, we recognise his success in the last two years but things must continue to grow,” he said.
“They don’t need to stay stuck somewhere.” Basha told BBC Sport.
The former school teacher was in his 2nd spell in charge of the Ethopia national team leading them to their 1st Africa Cup of Nations since 1982 in South Africa last year.
Under his tutelage, Ethopia also reached the play-offs for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers as they became a major force in African football.
“We lost both of the World Cup play-off matches, we didn’t do well at the regional Cecafa Cup and the CHAN results were less of our expectations, they don’t fit a nation of 90 million people, ” Basha added.
The EFF will immediately begin the search for his replacement and has not ruled out the possibility of engaging of a foreign coach.
“We’ll be looking for a good coach that can push us up to the next level and that could mean a foreign coach taking the post but local coaches are also being considered – what we need is some-one who can improve us,” Basha insisted.
