Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke says he is focussing on his recovery from a knee injury, rather than listening to speculation about an impending exit.
The Belgium international caught the attention of a host of big clubs in his debut season for Villa in the 2012/13 campaign, and has gone on to score 34 goals for the club.
The Villans managed to keen hold of the 23-year-old by handing him a new bumper contract last year, before Benteke was hit with a serious knee injury in April, ruling him out for six months. However, that has not stopped him from being linked with a move away.
“Speculation is speculation. It doesn’t mean it’s the truth. What I need to do is get back to playing well for Aston Villa,” Benteke was quoted as saying by Setanta Sport.
“And if some other club is interested in me they have to speak to the club, not just speak about me. Of course it’s nice to hear this club or that club wants you, but it means nothing.
“My first ambition is to focus on my rehabilitation.”
