After receiving their first defeat of 2013, Bayern Munich will look to forget about a disappointing midweek when they travel to the Bayer Arena on Saturday evening to face Bayer Leverkusen in a Bundesliga clash. Kick-off for the match is at 19h30 (CAT).
This past Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League, Bayern were completely outplayed by an unfortunate Arsenal side in Munich where the English side won the match 2-0 but Bayern were saved by the away goals after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate. The damage had already been done in London a nearly a month ago.
As far as the Bundesliga standings go, there’s little doubt about the most eye-catching fixture of Match day 26, with third-place Leverkusen locking horns with league leaders Bayern.
With 21 points separating the sides in the visitors’ favour, the tension for this one may be a little short of fever pitch, but quite aside from further valuable points towards Champions League qualification, Bayer are in the unique position of having the opportunity to complete a season double over the men from Munich.
This after a late strike by Sidney Sam wrapped up a 2-1 victory at the Allianz Arena on the weekend of match-day 9, earning Leverkusen the rarest of maximum hauls in the Bavarian capital.
Needless to say, that is a blemish on a near-spotless record that this current Bayern team will be itching to correct at the Bay Arena – where they can expect another tough examination from their confident hosts.
