Everton have officially announced that midfielder Ross Barkley has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at Goodison Park.
There have been reports that Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City were interested in pursuing a deal for the 20-year-old. However, the Toffees have stolen a march on the Premier League big boys by offering the Liverpool native improved terms.
And Barkley revealed that the club didn’t have to do too much to convince him to extend his current contract and keep him at Everton until July 2020.
“Signing a new contract is a dream,” he said at a press conference announcing the news.
“I’ve played for Everton most of my life. This is a big thing for me.
“It didn’t take any persuading. As soon as I got told about it I wanted to sign.”
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright added “Everton and Ross have always been the perfect fit – Roberto has made it even more special.
“This was an important agreement and, I have to say, was conducted in a way that showed clearly the devotion to Everton Football Club of everyone involved.”
