Barcelona gets Umtiti boost

Barcelona welcomed Samuel Umtiti back to first-team training on Tuesday, with the defender able to join in with part of the group session.

A hamstring injury picked up in the match against Celta Vigo last December 2 left the French centre-back on the sidelines, with doctors expecting him to miss eight weeks.

He is recovering well, though, and his partial return to full training will be encouraging for Ernesto Valverde.

In other injury news, Paco Alcacer kept up his recovery from a three-week injury on the training pitch.

Thomas Vermaelen and Jordi Alba completed some separate workouts, but they are both fine and should be able to feature in Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash with Celta Vigo.
