Xabi Alonso has reflected that Real Madrid are not overly dependent on a Cristiano Ronaldo who has now scored 50 goals for the season.
The Portuguese reached the half century of goals in all competitions for 2012-13 with a brace in MadridÔÇÖs 3-0 win on Sunday evening at Athletic Bilbao.
For Alonso, though, the team are not overly relying on him to produce the goods.
ÔÇ£No, there is no dependence. We are a team,ÔÇØ responded the midfielder when it was put to him that they were dependent.
ÔÇ£Yes, Cristiano is a great player. He scores crucial goals for us which is important and we would like him to play all the time.
ÔÇ£Now he is in form and the good stuff is coming, the big games, and we come into them on top form, but we have to take it bit by bit.
ÔÇ£The win? Athletic have an intense way of playing, marking tightly all over the field and were very competitive in the first half.
ÔÇ£In the second half we had more and more control and after the second goal we took complete control. It was a good result, which is what we wanted to stay in second place.ÔÇØ
YesterdayÔÇÖs was the last game Madrid are to play at San Mames, with Athletic moving across into their new San Mames for 2013-14.
ÔÇ£Coming here knowing it was the last time was special. Whenever IÔÇÖve played here I’ve enjoyed it and IÔÇÖm going to miss it, but you have to move forward.ÔÇØ
