Following the Super Eagles’ 3-1 victory over Sudan at Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua on Saturday, winger Simon Moses said the Sudanese were more tough to play against than the Egyptians.
The FC Nantes forward scored a goal and added an assist to enable the three-time African champions qualify for the Afcon 2021 Round of 16 with a game to spare.
After a 1-0 win over Egypt, the Augustine Eguavoen’s team picked up their game to win their second game, with Simon, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Samuel Chukwueze settling the match.
The 26-year-old – who was awarded man-of-the-match – told reporters after the four-goal thriller that his teammates are aiming to win their final Group D match against Baciro Cande’s side.
“The Sudanese were more difficult for us than the Egyptians. We expected this and we were ready for them. Having scored three goals already, we needed to keep possession just to flow with the ball and not to run after it,” he said.
He continued;
“However, during the closing stages of the game, Sudan tried to play long balls, but we were sure they were not going to score because we stayed a little bit backward.”
