AS Roma stunned Atalanta with a 4-1 defeat in Bergamo on Saturday afternoon, with Tammy Abraham scoring a brace, Chris Smalling and Nicol Zaniolo were also on target.
The Jose Mourinho’s team scored in the first minute of the match and continued to surprise Atalanta.
Roma took the lead in just 60 seconds, as Tammy Abraham brushed off Berat Djimsiti and had his effort deflected off Marten de Roon into the net.
Zaniolo then initiated the play with a brilliant back-heel flick, then received the ball back from Jordan Veretout and finished at the back post to double Roma’s lead.
It became the first Serie A goal for the Italy international since July 2020.
Luis Muriel’s thunderous long-range strike was deflected massively by Bryan Cristante, fooling Rui Patricio to make the scoreline 2-1, allowing Atalanta to bounce back into contention.
Muriel would have set a record for most Serie A goals scored off the bench if it hadn’t been ruled an own goal by Cristante.
With a header from point-blank range on the corner, Duvan Zapata put the ball in the net, but it was disallowed due to Jose Luis Palomino’s offside stance.
Roma went ahead 3-1 moments later when Jordan Veretout’s free kick was curled to the back post and volleyed in by Chris Smalling.
Before Tammy Abraham scored his brace as Veretout’s effort bounced into the path of the England striker, who stunned Juan Musso by smashing into the far top corner from a difficult angle.
