Nottingham Forest defeated West Ham United 1-0 at the City Ground to win their first Premier League game of the 2022/23 campaign. Taiwo Awoniyi scored the game’s only goal on his full Premier League debut.
At some point, the home team had to rely on pure luck, but Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal was sufficient to earn them the win and the bragging rights.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal for Nottingham Forest was the club’s first Premier League score in 23 years and 90 days, since Chris Bart-Williams’ goal against Leicester in May 1999.
The Hammers will find it challenging to accept that they lost the game because Said Benrahma had a goal disallowed by VAR and then hit the crossbar in the second half.
Forest didn’t have an easy game, and to make matters worse, McKenna got penalized for a handball inside the box but Declan Rice failed to convert the penalty. Steve Cooper and his team wouldn’t care much after the victory, anyways.
West Ham will play Viborg on Thursday at the London Stadium in their opening Europa Conference League game.
While two Super Eagles stars – Awoniyi and Iwobi, will be squaring off in Saturday night’s Premier League match between Everton and Nottingham Forest.
“What an honor it was to open my premier league scoring account in a historical moment for this great club! Amazing spirit from the boys backed by the best fans! Glory to God and we go again!. When I have you, I have everything God.” – Awoniyi said.
