After helping Union Berlin to a comfortable victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, Taiwo Awoniyi has set a new record in the German Bundesliga.
The Super Eagles forward scored his thirteenth league goal in Union Berlin’s 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
With a left-footed drive from the middle of the box to the bottom right corner, the 24-year-old coolly slide home the opener in the 17th minute after he managed to shield his opponents away.
Three minutes later, Grischa Prömel doubled the home side’s advantage with a right-footed shot to the upper right corner from outside the box.
Union Berlin came out in the second half looking for a third goal, but neither side took advantage of their chances, and Urs Fischer side’s two goals advantage sealed all three points at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Taiwo Awoniyi is the only player in Bundesliga history to score 13 goals in a single season for Union Berlin and currently, he has four goals in his last seven league games.
