Taiwo Awoniyi grabbed a goal on Sunday afternoon to help his side FC Union Berlin secure a 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach during their third league game of the season.

Awoniyi’s goal was his fifth in a roll this season for the Bundesliga side.

Niko Gießelmann opened scoring for the home side, just 22 minutes into the game with a powerful header from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner of the post as Genki Haraguchi turned the provider.

Four minutes to end of first half, the 24-year old Nigerian then doubled the lead for FC Union Berlin. Thanks to Max Kruse with the assist as Awoniyi scored with a left footed shot from the left side of the six yard box to the bottom left corner.

The home side failed to add another goal in second half before Borussia Mönchengladbach managed to pull on back late into the game.

Jonas Hofmann right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner in 90′ + 1′ minutes gave the visitor a slim hope as it was already too late to fight back to secure a point

Union Berlin are currently in 8th spot with 5 points after three games while who are yet to win a game this season are in 15th position with just a point.
