Super Falcons goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi was an unhappy woman after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Jamaica in the Summer Series tournament.
It hasn’t been a good week for football lovers in Nigeria following uninspiring results from the national football teams, Super Eagles and Falcons.
The Eagles ended their Austrian tour without winning a game on Tuesday and two days later, the Super Falcons suffered a narrow loss to their Caribbean counterparts in the US city of Houston, Texas.
In what was the opening match of the 2021 Summer Series, an early second half strike from defender Deineisha Blackwood was all the Jamaicans needed to seal the victory at the BBVA Stadium, Houston.
The Reggae Girlz dominated the tie from start to finish, with Falcons goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi keeping the result quite respectable with some outstanding saves.
Michelle Alozie, who came closest to an equaliser with a shot that came off the bar from over 20 yards, and Ijeoma Okoronkwo added more bites and vigour in the second half as substitutes but the Girlz held on for the win.
Speaking after the game, a disappointed Falcons goalkeeper had this to say about what she called a ‘silly’ goal.
“It was just a silly goal that messed everything up,” Oluehi said. ” I wasn’t happy but I tried, I did my best.”
Up next, the Falcons host Portugal, who also lost 1-0 to hosts USA on June 13 at the same venue.
