Few Nigerian footballers have the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League, let alone kick the ball for the full 90 minutes, thus Sunday Adetunji is buzzing with happiness at the possibility.
Sunday Adetunji’s ambition of having shot at the Champions League ball is finally a dream come true after he assisted his team FC Shkupi in capturing the Macedonian First Football League trophy in May.
When the 24-year-old striker made his Champions League debut on Tuesday, he was keen to make a mark.
The Nigerian forward managed to score his first goal ever in an European competition, referred to it as a “great occasion,” and went ahead to dedicate it to his fans for their unwavering support.
At the Cair Stadium on Sunday, Adetunji scored the second goal to lead his club to a 3-0 victory over Lincoln Red Imps in their first leg of the UEFA Champions League First Qualifying Round.
Sunday Adetunji and his teammates will be hoping to finish the job with their 3-0 advantage when they visit Victoria Stadium on Tuesday, July 12 to face the Gibraltar National League club in the second league.
Soon after the game, the forward posted on his official account to say;
“My mama, I don finally play original UCL ball. Those days for Ifako Ijaiye, na the fake UCL ball we dey use motivate ourselves say one day, we go play for this level. I appreciate you all. Happy Eid el Kabir. God bless you all.”
