Super Eagles forward – Samuel Chukwueze has finally opened his account of the new campaign with a goal, barely a week after grabbing two assists to his name in his first two games for Villarreal.
Samuel Chukwueze scored his first goal of the season to help Villarreal reach the UECL group stage at the expense of Chidozie Awaziem and his team – Hajduk Split.
The 23-year old, who grabbed an assist in the first leg of the encounter at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia last week has complimented his effort with a goal in the second part of the UECL fourth qualifying round.
With his first half strike and a goal from Alfonso Pedraza, Villarreal confirmed their progression to the group stages of the Europa Conference League with a 6-2 aggregate victory over Hadjuk Split.
The Spanish team arrived in Croatia with a two-goal advantage over Hadjuk, having won 4-2 in the first leg back at home.
They struggled early doors and former Inter striker Marko Livaja caused Unai Emery’s side plenty of issues.
But the Yellow Submarine managed to get themselves in front 37 minutes into the game through Alfonso Pedraza, who fired an excellent effort in off the post with his weaker foot.
Villarreal gained control of the game as the outcome grew more evident as time went on, and just 11 minutes into the second half, they were rewarded for their efforts, as Samuel Chukwueze fired a light strike but goalkeeping error made sure the tie was beyond doubt.
Villarreal qualified for the Champions League last season thanks to their victory in the Europa League in 2021; they would have been in the Conference League.
As a result of their win over Hajduk Split, they will play this season as the first Spanish team in the newly established Conference League.
