On July 17, following Rivers United’s game against Gombe United, the Nigeria Professional Football League trophy will be formally handed over to them.

After Plateau United’s defeat against Akwa United on June 26, Rivers United was named the league champions.

This Sunday, during matchday 38 vs Gombe United, the trophy presentation will be conducted at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

This is usually done by the League Management Company after the champions’ last home contest.

The Pride of Rivers, despite already having won, still has a chance to break a few records this year, depending on how well they play in the final game.

If Rivers United wins their final game without losing, they will break their own mark of 74 points set on matchday 36 and become the first team to top 75 points in a season.

The Port Harcourt team holds the joint record for the most goals scored in a calendar year, whereas Rivers United holds the record for the most victories in a calendar year (22), however United may possibly win 23.

Stanley Eguma’s side has the potential to set a new record for the distance in points between first and second place.

They might make their current 10-point advantage over Plateau United the greatest margin in the history of the Nigeria Professional Football League (13 points) if they win on Sunday.
