Rivers United are looking set to face a new challenge as they will be battling Lobi Stars in first Nigeria Premier Football League – NPFL game of the season at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The new NPFL season has officially kicked off and there are a lot of excitement in the competition to look forward to in the 2023 campaign.
The regular NPFL season will run until May 14 and will see 20 teams compete to make the Super 6 playoff, with the final six teams, left to vie for the trophy in the Super Six.
Rivers United will kick off their quest to try and add a 2nd Nigeria Premier Football League title to their honours list when they host Lobi Stars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday 15th January 2023.
It will be the 25th meeting between the Ortom boys and the Wike boys. In last five meetings between both side, the Pride of Rivers have managed to seal three wins, one draw and just one defeat and will be looking to maintain dominance over their visitors in Port Harcourt.
Ogoni born forward – Nyima Nwagua scored the only goal of the game for Rivers United in their last outing – a powerful effort from range.
Recall that Nigeria Premier Football League matchday one clash with Lobi Stars was rescheduled for Sunday, January 15.
The game was previously scheduled for January 8 but was postponed by the league organizers.
The game fell between their friendly game against Nigeria League One side – First Mahi FC on January 8 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium as well as a trip to Sunshine Stars of Akure the following midweek.
