The Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL has started to serve the required entertainment befitting of a country like Nigeria after another goal-fest weekend.

Last weekend, teams averaged over 3.1 goals per game with Lafia the place to be after Nasarawa United and Abia Warriors ended in an eight-goal thriller.

This time around, game week 19 saw an average of 3 goals per game on Sunday with Dakkada FC and Rivers United serving the necessary fireworks in Uyo with a six-goal thriller.

After an opening half that produced four of the goals as both teams were tied at 2-2 at the break, the hosts came out smoking and hungrier as they added two more goals to seal the entertaining match.

Musa Basiru inspired Dakkada with a brace, while despite all his efforts for Rivers United, Nelson Esor’s brace turned out to be just  consolation goals for the Pride of Rivers.

Emmanuel Charles and Christian Ekong were the other scorers on the day for the home side who have ended the first half of the season 8th on the log, the same as their defeated visitors, Rivers United who are 7th.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the NPFL21, league leaders, Kwara United continued to impress, led by the impressive Michael Ohanu who once again was on the score sheet.

Ohanu scored his 7th goal of the season to seal a 2-0 win over Nasarawa United in Ilorin.

In Bauchi, Manu Garba’s impressive first half double inspired Wikki Tourist to a 3-1 win over Katsina United.

The win was the first for Wikki in four matches, and sees them go five points clear of the dreaded relegation waters.

For United, a third consecutive defeat means they have now lost six of their last nine matches in the NPFL21, winning just one.

Of course, that’s a sure relegation form that leaves them 18th on the log, with 18 points.

Other results in the league saw Lobi Stars beat Jigawa Golden Stars 2-1 at home, Kano Pillars narrowly saw off Warri Wolves 1-0, while MFM were the only home team that failed to win after FCIU denied them all three points with a share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw at the Soccer Temple.
