Plateau United of Jos has won their second pre-season tournament as they ramp up their preparations for the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, which starts in a few weeks.
The Peace Boys won the Plateau State Football Association Pre-season final 4-1 against FC Izam of Jos on Wednesday afternoon at the Jos international stadium.
Jimmy Ambrose, a returnee holding midfielder, scored early in the first half with a long-range strike from the centre circle that beat the FC Izam goalkeeper, who failed to return to his post after throwing the ball into play.
Albert Hilary, who had only recently joined the club, scored a brace before Emmanuel Uchegu, a second-half substitution, completed the rout in the second half to clinch an emphatic victory for Coach Fidelis Lechukwu’s side.
FC Izam, a non-league side that inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Coach Tony Ogarandukwu’s Mighty Jets in the semi-final, scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the match through Darlington Sam, who capitalized on a momentary lapse in concentration in the Plateau United defense to reduce the score to 4-1.
Plateau United Technical Adviser, Coach Fidelis Lechukwu, used largely fringe players who did not participate prominently in the Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament to execute the match, which drew a large audience at the Jos International Stadium.
Coach llechukwu, who was overjoyed with his team’s success in the Pre-season Tournament, congratulated them on a job well done.
He termed the triumph as “heartwarming,” stating that he is not distracted by the club’s second Pre-season Tournament success.
Plateau United Football Club won the first edition of the Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament after defeating Nasarawa of Lafia 1-0 in the final held in October.
