Week 15 of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL21, promises as much excitement as the previous weekend with some key matches across the country.
Here are three (3) of them that should keep you glued to your seats later today on Super Sunday.
- Leaders Kwara United host Heartland
League leaders Kwara United will have their title credentials tested in Ilorin when they host the stubborn Owerri side.
It’s the 17th meeting between the two teams and the Harmony Boys will know a lot about what’s coming as Heartland lead their head to head.
Nine (9) wins compared to United’s six (6) means the home side will have all to play for as they look to improve that record later today to consolidate on their position at the top of the table.
While United are top of the league eight (8) above their visitors going into this one, both teams have identical forms in the last five matches with two wins, two draws, and a defeat.
Also, both would want to return to winning ways after dropping two points respectively in their last games.
This fixture has the makings of a pulsating encounter and promises goals, United have scored in each of their last seven (7) home matches while Heartland have netted four (4) in the last three (3).
- Pillars threaten Warriors unbeaten run
When Abia Warriors take to the Okigwe pitch later today, they’d be hoping to stretch their mini-unbeaten run to five (5) matches.
Quite a turnaround for Imama Amapakabo and his Warriors, however, standing in their way is former champions, Kano Pillars, one of the best teams in NPFL this season.
Sitting pretty in third on the log, Pillars are seven points above their hosts heading into today’s game.
The team from Kano will go into this match knowing a win could see them reclaim top spot should results in other matches go their way.
But to do that, they have to win at a venue they have only won just once against the home side, who have won three of their last three home matches.
The last time Amapakabo and his boys dropped points at home was in January 24 against MFM, a goalless affair that time.
For Pillars, they have lost two of their last two on the road and would hope to finally get something positive out of this one.
- Lobi Stars face unbeaten Plateau United
It’s 10th against 9th in Makurdi as Lobi Stars welcome Plateau United to Benue. The 10th meeting between the two would see Lobi try to put a stop to United’s unbeaten run against them.
The home side have failed to beat their visitors in the last four (4) meetings and would do all it takes to stop an extension to that run.
The head to head isn’t in their favour though, with two wins to Plateau’s four in the previous 9 matches. United have won the last two meetings, with the latest a 3-1 victory in the 2019 season.
On current form, the home side are also are second best after three defeats in their last five compared to a run of four matches without defeat for their visitors.
There you have it, three of the best games from eight (8) matches slated for Super Sunday. But which of them are you going to be keeping a keen eye on?
