NPFL: Rivers United players receive N1 Million each for beating Gombe United

Rivers State governor – Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has received a special award from Shehu Dikko, the chairman of League Management Company (LMC), in recognition of his support of Rivers United during the NPFL22 season.

The 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League trophy was handed over to the Pride of Rivers by the governor of Rivers State at the last league game in Port Harcourt.

The governor made the presentation after Sunday’s encounter between Rivers United Football Club and Gombe United in matchday 38 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Recall that after Plateau United’s loss against Akwa United on June 26, Rivers United was declared the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions.

Present at the presentation of the trophy were the Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko and Davidson Owumi.

Before the trophy was given out, Governor Wike urged Rivers United team that will represent the nation in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League the next season, to work tirelessly for the continental honor.

The governor gave the Rivers United players and coaching staff reassurance that the State government is committed to providing all necessary assistance to help the team succeed in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League the next season.

The State government, according to Governor Wike, would make sure that Rivers United’s players and management are comfortable in Port Harcourt.

He declared that each team member would receive one million naira as reward for defeating Gombe United.
