After a tense end to Group C game at the Teslim Balogun stadium on Tuesday evening, the three-time African champions have qualified for the World Cup play-off round.
The Super Eagles struggled to secure the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualification play-off spot with a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde Islands.
After six games, Osimhen’s goal was enough to help the Eagles advance in their quest for a place in Qatar, as they finished first in Group C with 13 points, two more than the tenacious Cape Verdeans in second place.
The Eagles pulled all the strings to advance to final round of the qualifiers after a hard-fought draw and Napoli star man, Victor Osimhen was the best player on the pitch.
Osimhen gave Nigeria a 1-0 lead in the first minute, but the advantage lasted only four minutes as Stopira Mendes equalized for the visitors.
The 22-year-old outranked his colleagues on the nervy encounter, with 7.5 ratings and has now reached double figures in goals for the Super Eagles, scoring 10 goals and 5 assist in 19 appearances.
Meanwhile, the Napoli forward’s 57 seconds goal became the third fastest Super Eagles goal in history.
He was later named a well deserved man of the match and the hero for the Eagles.
