Egypt have advanced to the final four of Afcon 2021 after beating Morocco 2-1 at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium after coming back from a goal down.
The Pharaohs won the “North African Derby” on Sunday, advancing to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals in Cameroon courtesy to an extra-time goal from Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan.
The Atlas Lions took the lead in the sixth minute through Sofiane Boufal, but Mohamed Salah levelled for the Pharaohs in the 53rd minute at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.
Trezeguet came in to replace injured Ahmed Hegazy, and the super sub scored the winning goal after Salah set him up in the 100th minute.
After directing the ball into the net following a Salah cross, he gave Carlos Queiroz’s team the game-winning goal, earning the Pharaohs some respect in the rivalry as well as a spot in the semi-finals, where they will face hosts Cameroon.
