The League Management Company LMC and the Nigeria Professional Football League Club Owners have approved the 17th of December 2021 as the start date for the 2021/2022 NPFL campaign.
This was one of the resolutions passed during the LMC’s General Assembly meeting on Tuesday in Maitama, Abuja.
The Executive Secretary of the NPFL Club Owners Association, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, spoke to press shortly after the meeting, which lasted over five hours, and claimed the new season would start and end early enough to align the NPFL program with the worldwide Football calendar.
Nigerian football fans should expect a new kind of NPFL season this year, with lots of innovation and fierce competition among the participating clubs, according to him.
The General Assembly also approved the appointment of Prince Davidson Owumi of Rangers International FC of Enugu as the new CEO of the League Management Company LMC, according to Chukwuemeka.
The Executive Secretary went on to say that Owumi received a standing ovation from the General Assembly, which was also attended by the NFF President’s representative, Alh. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and that he would bring his wealth of experience to the table to add more value to the system.
Apart from NPFL television coverage of the league and other activations, the LMC had previously promised that new sponsors and partners would be announced soon to bolster the league’s revenue sources.
Uyo based Akwa United are the defending champions after that historic victory last season.
