Chelsea came from behind to win Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park on Sunday night in the Premier League, thanks to Jorginho’s brace and Lukaku’s goal.
After two draws in their previous two games, the Blues put up a magnificent second-half display to put the game out of reach for Villa, who never seemed like giving up!
Despite their hard effort and near-constant counter-attacking, Villa were unable to create enough good chances to concern Chelsea, and even though the final score may somewhat favor the Blues, there’s no doubting that they were the stronger team for big chunks of the second half.
Chelsea’s Reece James’s work ethic was reflected in his performance at Villa Park.
Despite conceding an own goal to give Villa the lead, he led the Blues in successful passes, touches, and aerial duels, as well as three clearances and five interceptions.
After that triumph, Chelsea is currently in third place, six points behind leaders Manchester City, who also won their Boxing Day match.
Villa have dropped to tenth place and might be passed by as many as five teams in the coming days.
Due to positive coronavirus infections, their next match against Leeds has been postponed, putting them at risk of being surpassed by several other teams behind them in league table well before new year.
