Fenerbahçe Legend Jay Jay Okocha was at the ülker stadium in Turkey to watch the team take on Frankfurt, his former team as well in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.
Austin Okocha received significant recognition in Turkey ahead of Fenerbahçe’s Europa League match against the German side.
Two of his former clubs expressed respect to the former Nigerian international, who left behind a trail of good records in Germany and Turkey.
Fernabache’s President – Ali Koç invited Okocha and a delegation of Frankfurt executives and players for dinner on Wednesday night before the encounter.
It was done to honor their former playmaker’s impact to both clubs’ histories.
Okocha featured for Fenerbahce and Frankfurt in the 1990s, where he is still regarded as a hero.
Before the German side was relegated in 1996, the Super Eagles legend played four years with them before leaving the club.
After that, Okocha spent two remarkable seasons with Fenerbahce, where he was a key member of the Yellow-Reds’ teams that won the Prime Minister’s Cup and the Atatürk Cup.
Last night, hosts Fenerbahce were knocked out of the Europa League after a 1-1 draw, while Frankfurt clinched top spot in Group D with 12 points.
Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil named Okocha as a major inspiration for him while growing up.
