Despite their brave performance, Inter were able to defeat Liverpool but were ousted from the Champions League, while the Reds cruised to the quarter-finals.
Martinez’s magnificent shot won the match on Tuesday night at Anfield, but not the ties. Despite their setback, the Premier League side missed a lot of chances that went just wide of the goal frame.
Lautaro Martinez made up for his poor in the game by taking a couple of steps to position himself on the left corner of the box before hitting a powerful shot into the top corner to equalise the game at 61 minutes.

The visitors, however, were caught off guard when they were down to ten men two minutes later. Just seconds after bringing the team back into the game, Alexis Sanchez swung clumsily into a challenge with Thiago, earning himself a second booking and being sent out.
The Nerazzurri’s comeback was ended by Sanchez’s red card, as their hosts moved to the quarterfinals for the second time.

After going 28 games without losing at Anfield, Liverpool has now lost a home match for the first time.
The Reds will face Brighton this weekend in order to keep their quadruple hopes alive.
Inter, on the other hand, must refocus on domestic affairs; although having already won the Suppercoppa, they are still vying for the league and cup double.
