Getafe gift Real Madrid first new year defeat

by: Evolve

Getafe’s defence shines once more as the Quique Sanchez Flores side take all three points after a well deserved 1-0 win against the league leaders Real Madrid at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Unal scored the only goal of the game and it came after an error by Militao inside his own penalty area.

The Merengues were unable to find a way back into the game in the subsequent 81 minutes, with Modric’s effort off the crossbar the closest they got to beating Soria.

Despite Ancelotti’s wrath at the match official, Rodrygo and Asensio struggled to find themselves in the contest, with Getafe’s wing-backs marshalling the strikers with composure and assurance.

Real Madrid’s 11-match unbeaten streak comes to an end as they are held without a goal for the second time in three games, despite having more than 70% possession and 14 total shots.

But besides the defeat, Madrid remains in first place, while Getafe is now one point clear of the final relegation spot.

Getafe will be back in action in seven days when they visit Sevilla.

Real Madrid has a Copa del Rey match against Alcoyano on Wednesday before facing Valencia on Saturday.
