Milan on Thursday evening put Roma to the sword and moved within a point of their arch-rivals, Inter with a dominant performance that included goals, controversy, and cards.
In their Serie A match at the San Siro, Giroud, Junior Messias, and Rafael Leo scored to give the hosts a 3-1 victory and all three points.
Roma’s lack of discipline cost them in the second half, when they were reduced to nine men and unable to prevent the hosts getting a third through Leao, and Jose Mourinho will indeed be upset with his side’s performance.
Irrespective of their efforts, it’s difficult to argue that Milan were not the superior team in this encounter.
In the game, Olivier Giroud led the attack brilliantly for the hosts, scoring the first goal and assisting the second.
He also added two more shots to his tally, as well as a critical assist, and provided an offensive alternative for a Milan side that was on fire in the match.
As previously said, Milan’s victory puts them just behind Inter, whose match vs Bologna was rescheduled.
Stefano Pioli will be optimistic that his team can surpass their city rivals and claim the title come May of this year, and the Rossoneri couldn’t have asked for a better start to their 2022 campaign.
Roma tumble to seventh place after missing out on a chance to surpass Juventus, and Jose Mourinho and his team will be worried about their eighth loss in just 20 games.
