Cyriel Dessers scored yet again on Thursday night as Feyenoord overcame Marseille 3-2 in the UECL Semifinals.

Feyenoord defeated Olympique Marseille in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final, kudos to a well-taken brace by Cyriel Dessers.

The Dutch top flight team came into the game with conviction, having gone undefeated in their previous five matches across all competitions.

In a thrilling opening to the five-goal thriller, Dessers wasted a clear-cut chance to put the hosts ahead after firing a close-range drive over the bar, while Ofir Marciano denied Bamba Dieng on the other side.

The Nigerian forward later made amends for his earlier miss by putting Arne Slot’s team ahead, thanks to a back-heel assist from Luis Sinisterra.

Three minutes later, Sinisterra’s deflected shot was snapped up by Reiss Nelson and sailed into the net, handing the home side their second goal.

Dieng then halved the deficit in the 28th minute, latching on a Cedric Bakambu pass to score his first goal in Europe.

Five minutes before halftime, Marciano managed to push Matteo Guendouzi’s cross over the box into the path of Gerson, who slammed it in to make it 2-2 for the French top tier squad.

Dessers intercepted Duje Caleta-Car’s bad back-pass to score his second goal of the game just 10 seconds into the second half, giving Feyenoord the lead for the second time.

The 27-year-old striker has already overtaken AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham as the tournament’s leading scorers with ten goals.

The man-of-the-match – Dessers, had a chance to score a hat-trick just a few minutes later, but Mandanda denied him with a fantastic save at his near post.

After 82 minutes, Alireza Jahanbakhsh came on to replace the former Genk forward.
