After two rounds of games in Group A, Ecuador and the Netherlands each have four points thanks to the draw.

Due to the fact that both teams won their group openers by scores of 2-0, the two teams will remain tied going into the final matchday.

Due to their draw, the hosts Qatar are out of the competition because they now have four points less than these two teams and can no longer catch up to them.

Qatar did score their first-ever World Cup goal in their earlier 3-1 defeat to Senegal, but this result means their campaign is all but over.
