With a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in their second Group A, Round 2 match on Friday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Ecuador solidified their strong start to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Davy Klassen assisted Cody Gakpo’s opening goal for the Netherlands in the sixth minute of the first half.
Then, in the final seconds of first-half extra time, Pervis Estupinan tied the score for Ecuador, but Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal disallowed the goal for offside.
Enner Valencia of Ecuador scored an equalizer in the 49th minute of the second half to tie the game at 1-1.

La Tri earned their equalizer at the beginning of the second half, and they even made a valiant effort to score the winner, but the game ended in a stalemate.
With 4 points each, they are currently tied for first place in Group A!
After two rounds of games in Group A, Ecuador and the Netherlands each have four points thanks to the draw.
Due to the fact that both teams won their group openers by scores of 2-0, the two teams will remain tied going into the final matchday.

Due to their draw, the hosts Qatar are out of the competition because they now have four points less than these two teams and can no longer catch up to them.
Qatar did score their first-ever World Cup goal in their earlier 3-1 defeat to Senegal, but this result means their campaign is all but over.
