Dele Alli net brace for Everton in 4-2 win over Blackpool

Last season, Dele Alli had a quiet beginning to his Everton career, but the former Tottenham star is now prepared to leave a bigger impression as he scored for Everton on Sunday.

Dele Alli scored his first Everton goals after a six-month drought, and has pledged to keep hoping to garner Frank Lampard’s respect.

Despite moving to Goodison Park in January, the former England and Tottenham player had trouble making a difference in front of the Everton fans.

Last season, he made 11 appearances for the Toffees, but only one of those was as a starter but will be aiming to start fresh this year and gain manager Lampard’s favor.

Everton secured their first victory of preseason with the aid of two goals from Dele Alli.

Given that the game was a friendly, Alli’s two goals in the 4-2 victory against Blackpool on Sunday may not mean much in the long run, but for the 26-year-old Alli, it was a pivotal moment.

I got two goals, so I’m happy,” said Alli.

He stressed that rather than focusing on individual performances, spectators should assess Everton’s preseason development in terms of the club as a whole.

Everton lost Brazilian forward Richarlison to Tottenham after narrowly avoiding relegation last season, and a recent 4-0 loss to Minnesota United was a concerning outcome on paper.

There haven’t been any noteworthy attacking acquisitions, which can put more pressure on players like Alli to score goals.

With Spurs, he was once a dependable goal scorer who scored 22 goals in all competitions in the 2016–17 season. However, in more recent years, that scoring prowess has seriously been weakened.

This is a timely return to scoring ways for him anyways as Everton set to kick off their Premier League campaign against Chelsea on August 6.

But then, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder knows he is far from being guaranteed a spot in the starting XI to play Thomas Tuchel’s side.

While speaking to the club website, Dele Alli said;

To achieve anything, we need to be fighting for places. No one’s place is guaranteed. We have to work hard in every game and training session. Everything we do, we need to apply ourselves. When you’re at a club like Everton, it’s not for the manager to say that places are up for grabs.”
