Abia Warriors grabbed the lead just a minute into the game through Anthony Okemmiri, who found the games opener for the visiting side.

The first half ended with the home side chasing their visitors behind with a 1-0 deficit.

Rivers United came into the second half stronger and in search of a goal. Ishaq Rafiu Kayode and Morice Chukwu came close to scoring in the 51 and 57 minutes respectively but both missed the target by inches.

60th minute, coach Stanley Eguma decided to spice up the game by bringing in Malachi Ohawume and Nelson Esor to replace Solomon Okuruket and Ishaq Rafiu Kayode.

It all paid off 4 minutes later as the Pride of Rivers were awarded a penalty after Nelson Esor was fouled in the box by the Warriors defender.

Chijioke Akuneto stepped up and converted from the spot kick to draw his team back into the game with his 15th goal of the season.

Seven minutes after pulling his side back into the game, Chijioke Akuneto scored yet again, his 16th goal of the season to give Rivers United a 2-1 lead.

United kept their lead until the final whistle, winning all three points to preserve their seven-point lead at the top of the table.
