After a little controversy, Marc Cucurella’s transfer from Brighton to Premier League rivals – Chelsea has been officially announced.
The left-back allegedly put forth a transfer request this summer, and Manchester City was prepared and hoping to sign him.
The Premier League Champions were previously expected to sign the 24-year-old due to their dearth of choices for full-backs entering into this season.
Later, City admitted they have no intention of raising their £40 million bid and pulled out of the deal.
Chelsea moved in and took over the deal. On Monday, contracts were being reviewed and exchanged in anticipation of finalizing the £55M deal for Marc Cucurella from Brighton.
The contract offer was completed later on Tuesday after thorough personal agreement between the Blues and Cucurella.
The defender was forced to accept when both teams agreed on the price. Levi Cowill will join Brighton on a temporary loan through June 2023 as part of the £55 million fixed price and £7 million add-ons that Chelsea paid.
In the Premier League last campaign, Marc Cucurella generated 40 chances for goals directly from play. Only Reece James (42) produced more chances among all Chelsea players.
He would be joining a club that already boasts Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly, who would be excellent role models for him to learn from.
