Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their outstanding form in the Afcon 2021 with a dominant performance against Falcons of Sudan on Saturday evening.
The Eagles defeated Burhan Tia 3-1 in Garoua, thanks to goals from Chukwueze, Awoniyi and Simon Moses.
Chukwueze put the Eagles ahead just three minutes into the game, bending in a shot from the middle of the box.
At the stroke of halftime, Taiwo Awoniyi extended the Eagles’ advantage with a header from the heart of the box to the bottom left corner following a set piece situation.
Even though they wasted a handful of chances in the first half, with Aribo and Awoniyi going close to scoring, the Super Eagles dominated the first half and could have been four goals up at halftime, but they got the two goals at the appropriate time.
Chukwueze was later withdrawn for Alex Iwobi before second half kicked off and Just 35 seconds in, Simon Moses makes it 3-0 for the Eagles.
Sudan got one back with 20 minutes to go when Ola Aina hauled a player down in the 18 yard box and the ref points to the spot kick. Walieldin Khedr takes the goal and converts it.
The Falcons were unable to create any more problems for the Eagles, as the Augustine Eguavoen-led team took all three points to preserve their six-point lead in Group D.
Sudan’s dreadful run continues, as they are yet to win a game in the Afcon group stage, and will be hoping to break that record against Egypt on Wednesday.
